Biography

Bill Alford was born in South East London in 1958 to Irish parents.

He undertook a Foundation Course in Hornsey College of Art in 1978, awakening a lifelong love of photography, before moving to Ireland and completing a degree in Visual Communications at The National College of Art and Design Dublin, in 1982.

Following a year taking photographs in and around the creative community in Dublin, Bill returned to London. After working as a photographic assistant in a busy commercial studio, he subsequently worked as a freelance photographer concentrating on editorial portraiture and performance photography.

The intervening years have seen Bill move between London and Australia before settling back in Dublin, his spiritual home, with a varied career spanning animation, web development, photography and more recently ITC.

A growing interest in Bill’s archive has fuelled a desire to revisit this work spanning a decade of images from the 80s. Now is the time to see Bill’s work published, starting with The Tunnel Archive.
